The Saarland-Spielbank casino in Saarbrücken has celebrated its 20th anniversary.
The first roulette ball was rolled on August 28, 1998, by ex-Prime Minister Oskar Lafontaine. The casino is now visited by just under 200,000 guests each year, 62 per cent of whom live in neighbouring France. Since 1998, the casino’s GGR has more than tripled from €4.6m to €16.2m. Around the year 2000, the casino, added machines to its roulette and blackjack and poker tables and abolished the rule that players had to wear a tie and jacket.
In 2002, the first IHK-certified croupiers in Germany worked on the tables, including female croupiers. Overall, the casino currently employs nearly 280 people.
