Germany – Saxony-Anhalt enjoys successful lottery year with stakes again over €200m

By - 17 January 2022

The stakes at Lotto-Toto GmbH Sachsen-Anhalt are still on record course. In the pandemic year 2021, lottery players in Saxony-Anhalt spent around €3.9m every week on their luck at LOTTO Sachsen-Anhalt (around 42,000 euros more per week than in 2020).

The €200m mark was broken through for the second time in a row. The stakes in the 52 calendar weeks in 2021 totaled €202.8m. (In 2020 it was €204.5m with 53 calendar weeks). In purely arithmetic terms, every person in Saxony-Anhalt spent €93.00 on LOTTO Saxony-Anhalt products last year.

The classic LOTTO 6aus49 was one of the most popular products. Around 337,000 lottery tickets were handed in here every week alone. The Eurojackpot lottery, which will be celebrating its 10th anniversary in just a few weeks and for which a second drawing will be introduced at the end of March, also held up well.

Scratch-off tickets were in greater demand in 2021 – especially €5 and €10 tickets. Overall, scratch cards recorded a sales increase of 6.3 per cent. Bingo – the environmental lottery – even increased by almost 15 per cent.

“Lottoglück has proven to be pandemic-proof and crisis-proof,” said Lotto Managing Director Stefan Ebert. “The people of Saxony-Anhalt trust the LOTTO brand and rely on the proven sales outlet structure, which is supplemented by online offers.”

More than 80 per cent of the stakes are generated in the lottery sales outlets, where around 2,800 women and men work with lottery luck. During the lockdown in the first half of 2021, 35 of the 670 lottery sales outlets were closed for days or weeks.

“Lotto players in Saxony-Anhalt not only spent more money on our products in 2021, they were also luckier and won significantly higher amounts than in the previous year,” said Lotto Managing Director Stefan Ebert. 784** lottery players were happy about winnings from €5,000 – 122 more than in 2020. Six of them even became lottery millionaires – more than in any other eastern German state.

At LOTTO , Saxony-Anhalt always wins. In 2021, 353 funding projects were approved and €5.9m in lottery funding was awarded. Of this, around 2 million euros went to 121 cultural projects and around €2m to sports in Saxony-
Anhalt. Church monument preservation was supported with around €1m, social projects with around 542,000 euros and environmental protection with around €400,000. In addition to the common good and lottery players, the country was also among the winners. Around €68m in lottery and sports betting taxes as well as gambling taxes flowed into the state budget.

Not every lottery player noticed their luck in 2021. In total, prizes of €757,000 have not yet been requested or collected. This includes a €100,000 prize that was won in Magdeburg on February 27, 2021. Here someone had played a lottery ticket for four weeks for €40.20 and had not yet claimed the main prize in the SUPER 6 additional lottery. Winnings from €1,000 will be transferred and must be requested beforehand. To do this, the lottery ticket receipt is read in at a lottery terminal and the winner data is sent to the lottery headquarters in Magdeburg.
