Germany – Wettarena to expand sports betting offering into every major German city

By - 13 October 2020

IBC Sportsbetting, one of Berlin’s best-known betting providers, is planning huge expansion in land-based sports betting having secured one of the first hybrid licenses to organise sports betting online and in retail in Germany.

The Darmstadt Regional Council has approved IBC Sportsbetting a license to organise online and land-based sports betting under the name Wettarena. Sales Manager of Wettarena, Halil Kopal, has set himself the goal of having his own betting offices in every major German city. IBC Sportsbetting became one of the first seven sports betting providers to receive this hybrid license. For a long time it was not clear what the future of online sports betting would be like in Germany, as this was previously only legal in Schleswig-Holstein.

With the concession in Hesse, IBC Sportsbetting is now entitled to offer sports betting under the name Wettarena. The regulation does not only apply to Hessen, but also entitles IBC Sportsbetting Ltd. to sell its offer nationwide.

Gökhan Balkaya, Managing Director and Owner of IBC Sportsbetting, said: “For us, the years of hard work and waiting for the concession have finally paid off. We are pleased to be represented on the German market as an independent betting provider and look forward to a successful entrepreneurial future. We would also like to thank our former partner Bet3000 for the successful cooperation and wish them all the best.”

After separating from Bet3000, Wettarena is looking to significantly expand its market share: In addition to the online sports betting offer on www.wettarena.de, numerous new openings of land-based betting shops are on the horizon along with shops based on the franchise model planned by the end of the year.

Many betting arena branches are currently being built, including betting shops in North Rhine-Westphalia, Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, Lower Saxony, Saxony and other locations. Wettarena wants to set an example with its branch in Bochum in particular: with around 1,600 square meters, it will be one of the largest betting shops in Germany.

The new concept in the land-based offer offers bright and friendly branches with a modern design. In addition to gigantic video walls on which all relevant sports events are broadcast, the branches are equipped with high-quality, state-of-the-art technology.
