Influencers in the spotlight in Buenos Aires for promoting illegal gambling
The Lottery of the City of Buenos Aires (LOTBA) has sent nine official letters to influencers who promoted illegal online gambling platforms through their social media. This action is part of the organization’s efforts against illegal gambling and the prevention of gambling addiction among children.
Additionally, LOTBA has forwarded the list of those involved to the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Gambling in the City of Buenos Aires, which is conducting a deeper investigation that already includes over 100 cases being examined together.
Among the influencers are a number of participants who have appeared on Big Brother. The charges focus on advertising content on social media related to a betting platform that violates Law No. 6330. This law aims to prevent compulsive gambling and specifically protect minors from the risks of gambling addiction.
Jesús Acevedo, president of LOTBA, explained the scope of the complaint and emphasized the responsibility of content creators: “It is essential that those who have visibility on social media understand the seriousness of promoting illegal gambling platforms. From LOTBA, we will continue to work firmly to promote Responsible Gambling and combat both clandestine gambling and gambling addiction, especially among minors.”
The measures taken by the entity include blocking more than 2,300 unauthorized gambling sites, removing over 1,900 profiles and advertisements on social media, and restricting access to more than 1,600 sites from schools and the public Buenos Aires Wi-Fi network.
