Japan – Dynam close to naming casino partner for Japan
By Phil - 8 April 2014
Japanese pachinko operator Dynam is close to naming a partnership with an Asian casino group having held discussion with several operators.
Dynam has held talks with Macau-based operators Melco Crown Entertainment, SJM Holdings and Galaxy Entertainment Group, as well as South Korea’s Paradise Group and Cambodia’s NagaCorp.
Yoji Sato, Dynam’s Chairman revealed the company wants to have a collaboration in place with an Asian operator before the initial bill is passed to pave the way to legalising casinos. The debate regarding the bill is expected to start next month with the aim to pass it before the parliament session ends in June.
Mr. Sato said the plan was not necessarily to secure majority ownership of a casino project in Japan but to play a leading role in its operation.
Dynam is looking more at the regional markets than the big cities with potential sites in Hokkaido to the north and the southern Kyushu area where high-rollers would account for only 20 per cent of business.
Dynam already has an involvement in the casino sector with
a with US$35m investment in Macau Legend.
