Japan – Wakayama Governor says it is ‘irresponsible’ to try and derail casino plan

By - 21 September 2020

Wakayama Governor Yoshinobu Nisaka has said it is ‘irresponsible’ for casino opponents to try and stop the prefecture moving forward with its plan to host an integrated resort, operated by either Hong Kong’s Suncity Group or Canadian investment firm Clairvest Group.

He told residents group standing against the plan: “It is irresponsible to future generations to stop a bid because you may dislike it. If you disagree, you have to offer a counter alternative to Wakayama’s revival or it is just an opinion. The national and prefectural governments are thinking about sufficient measures to dispel the anxieties of those who have signed the petition, and I will strive to gain their understanding.”
