Keno has begun operations in Colombia. It will be offered throughout the country and will contribute approximately COP $500 billion to the subsidized health system over the next five years according to estimates released by regulatory body Coljuegos.

“We are making history in the industry: for the first time in a long time, Colombians will be able to have a new game that, in addition to contributing to health, will award million-dollar prizes to bettors,” said Marco Emilio Hincapié, president of Coljuegos.

Keno will be offered by four different operators and can be purchased at more than 26,000 sales terminals across all 32 departments of the country. Ticket prices will range from COP $500 to COP $20,000.

“We expect that, in the next 5 years, this game will reach sales exceeding $2.3 trillion and will establish itself as one of the favourites among Colombians,” Hincapié stated.

Hincapié emphasised that Keno will be one of the first games in Latin America to use blockchain technology in ticket issuance, which will provide greater security for players.

Following regulations from Coljuegos Keno can now be operated legally throughout the country.

In the game each bettor must choose 10 numbers between 01 and 80, and define the value of the bet (from COP $500 to COP $20,000).

Depending on the region, draws will be held every 6 or 10 minutes. These draws will also be streamed online by the operators.

“We encourage bettors to play Keno only at authorized locations. We have designed a safe game with an attractive prize plan, fully backed by the government. By playing legally, we are contributing to the health of Colombians,” Hincapié concluded.
