Kursaal-Casino AG Luzern enjoys record year
Kursaal-Casino AG Luzern and the Grand Casino Luzern Group further strengthened their strong market position in the 2024 financial year with Gross Gaming Revenue rising by two per cent to a record high of CHF124.67m.
The annual profit of Kursaal-Casino AG Lucerne increased to CHF1.03m (previous year: CHF 255,000).
The operator said: “The new concession and the operating licence issued in autumn 2024 secure the company’s core business for at least another 20 years. Despite major challenges, the Grand Casino Luzern Group is cautiously optimistic about the future. The Board of Directors and Executive Board are striving for profitable, sustainable growth with various initiatives.”
Parallel to the higher gross gaming revenue, the casino tax also rose by CHF1.5m to almost CHF61.3m. Since 2002, the casino levies from Lucerne in favour of the AHV have added up to almost CHF600m.
The online sector is also developing encouragingly: mycasino, the online casino of the Grand Casino Luzern Group, confidently maintained its top position in Switzerland in 2024: At a high level, mycasino recorded growth of 3.7 per cent to CHF98.44m. The online casino has a strong market share of 32 per cent.
The operator added: “The entire casino industry in Switzerland is undergoing structural change. Online business is gaining in importance, while traditional casinos are stagnating. These market changes can also be observed in Lucerne: despite a 3.2 per cent increase in visitor numbers to 159,468 guests, gross gaming revenue in the land-based casino fell by 4.5 per cent to CHF26.23m in 2024.
In the Grand Casino Luzern Group, the two casino types work closely together. This enables combined offers via both sales channels for the benefit of guests.
It added: “The company reviewed the strategy of the Grand Casino Luzern Group in autumn 2024. The Board of Directors defined three strategic objectives: The market-leading position in the online casino is to be maintained. Today, it is the backbone of the company in terms of earnings. The land-based Grand Casino in Lucerne is to become more attractive. Despite the boom in online casinos, many guests continue to seek the classic casino experience. Gastronomy and event infrastructure are to be optimised. The company is an entertainment center that offers games, gastronomy and events in Lucerne.”
“With these strategic initiatives, the corporate success of the Grand Casino Group Lucerne will be more broadly supported. The focus is on profitable, sustainable growth in the interests of shareholders, guests and employees.”
