The Buenos Aires Justice has ordered the blocking of 72 illegal online gambling platforms. This operation, the largest since September when 237 similar websites were blocked, was carried out following an investigation by the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Gaming in the City of Buenos Aires (FEJA). It took part in collaboration with the Buenos Aires Lottery, which provided key information needed to verify the operation of the clandestine platforms.

“We are the only authority that can grant legal permits to operate legal games of chance in the jurisdiction of Buenos Aires. This operation is part of the ongoing awareness and combat actions we promote continuously to encourage responsible gaming and prevent childhood gambling addiction,” stated Jesús Acevedo, president of the Buenos Aires Lottery.

In total, between 2024 and the beginning of 2025, more than 330 websites for illegal online gambling have been ordered to be blocked in addition to more than 1,600 social media profiles and advertisements.

In September FEJA successfully blocked 237 websites offering illegal gambling that operated in Buenos Aires. The case was initiated following a report made by the Argentine Chamber of Casinos, Bingos, and Annexes, and the Judicial Investigations Body of the Public Prosecutor’s Office, which after an investigation, determined that the websites allowed betting from the Buenos Aires City area (CABA).

FEJA was created in July 2024 due to the rising number of gambling activities affecting children and adolescents.

Referring to the judicial investigation in September Jorge Macri, the head of the city government said: “Every website we close is one less opportunity for kids to gamble. Thanks to the work of the Specialized Prosecutor’s Office for Gambling, created by the Public Prosecutor’s Office in July this year, we have taken an important step in the fight against gambling addiction.”

Last year the Government of Buenos Aires City, in collaboration with the Buenos Aires Lottery, also launched “Talking is Winning,” a campaign aimed at raising awareness about the dangers of online gambling among minors. Among the actions taken, access to gambling sites was blocked in 1,770 public schools.
