Malta – Eden and Olympic open Malta’s largest casino

By - 6 January 2016

The Malta Gaming Authority has granted a licence to Casino Malta, owned by Maltese hotel and entertainment company Eden Leisure Group, allowing it to become the fourth casino in Malta.

The €12m venue, located in St. George’s Bay on the first floor of the InterContinental Hotel, will be operated by Olympic Entertainment Group.

The new casino has hired 175 members of staff.

As well as being the largest casino on the island, it is the largest property in the Olympic Entertainment portfolio. Spread over close to 3,000 sq. m., the casino features 285 slots, 2two electronic roulette tables and 29 casino and poker tables as well as a wide sports betting and bar area with a lounge to hold regular live music events.

Owners Ian and Kevin De Cesare said: “We are delighted to finally open our doors after several years in the process. We are lucky to have great operator partners in our businesses from Olympic Entertainment to our hotel operators InterContinental Hotel Group to together will ensure that the industry is grown rather than cannibalised from other operators. The synergies of significant hotel accommodation, an existing entertainment business and great partners is, what we hope is a tremendous winning formula.”
