Malta – Maltese government to award two new licences

By - 30 October 2014

The Maltese government’s privatisation unit is planning to offer a new casino licence to both Eden Leisure Group Limited and Dragonara Gaming Limited, taking Malta’s quota of casinos from four to six.

The decision follows a competitive process that started with a call for proposals back in July, 2013.
The evaluations and adjudications committee chose Eden Leisure Group as its preferred bidder although it has decided to award its second favourite Dragonara Gaming a second licence having negotiated with both companies.

Economy Minister Chris Cardona said: “The government is sending out a clear message that it will continue working to strengthen the fast economic rhythm that Malta has caught. The government is optimistic that, thanks to this decision and others that will be announced in the coming days, Malta’s economic prospects will keep improving, as was recently confirmed by credit-rating agency Moody’s.”
