Merkur heralds half a century of casino history

Merkur Spielbank Bad Bentheim has celebrated its 50th anniversary together with colleagues and numerous invited guests as part of a festive event.

Since its opening 50 years ago, the casino has stood for exclusive entertainment and special gaming experiences. The Merkur Spielbank Bad Bentheim celebrated this traditional anniversary

After the welcome by David Schnabel, CEO Merkur Casinos of Merkur.com AG, Bad Bentheim’s mayor Dr. Volker Pannen and Reinhold Hilbers, CDU politician and former Lower Saxony Minister of Finance, also addressed their greetings to the guests from politics, business and the region. The entertainment was provided by live music by the two-piece acoustic band Modern Walking and a magician, who gave the event a special setting. Visitors to the casino were also greeted by a wheel of fortune and an interactive raffle with concert tickets for Culum Scott, Nico Santos or Lenny Kravitz, including hotel accommodation.

David Schnabel, CEO of Merkur Casinos at Merkur.com AG, said: “What makes this location special is not walls or concepts, it is the people who show every day what makes this place special with passion, attitude and genuine hospitality. We want to inspire, surprise and rethink the casino entertainment experience again and again. The clear support and commitment to the Bad Bentheim location from politicians is a strong signal of trust, partnership and a common perspective.”

Since its opening on 1 April 1976, the Bad Bentheim Casino has developed into an integral part of the regional leisure and entertainment landscape. From the first roulette ball, turned by Princess Sylvia von Bad Bentheim, to prominent visitors such as Götz George, to structural changes such as the nationalisation and later privatisation of the casinos in Lower Saxony – the location looks back on an eventful history. The casino on the Dutch border is part of the Merkur Group and combines its rich history with modern entertainment. The 50th anniversary underlines its importance as a meeting place for games, culture and social life as well as a permanent fixture in the spa town of Bad Bentheim.
