Netherlands – Dutch regulator increase levy for COVID-19 adverts

By - 23 March 2020

Kansspelautoriteit, the Dutch gambling regular, has announced an increase in its penalty against any operator who uses the COVID-19 pandemic to promote their products.

The move to a minimum fine of €250,000 follows a number of operators using the pandemic to promote their offerings, including using terms such as Corona-free gambling. The 25 per cent increase in the penalty may be increased further, dependent on the content of the advertisement.

However, notices stating the games or prize draws are affected as a result of the pandemic do not constitute a breach of regulations.

Last week, the regular announced an increase in advertising by online operators since the closure of gaming venues
