Slots needed at horse racetracks to stem flow to NYC

In light of the news that the New York Gaming Facility Location Board voted to recommend licenses to operate three casinos in New York City, New Jersey Senator Joe Pennacchio has renewed his call for slot machine gambling at horse racetracks.

“New York is charging ahead with three new casinos while New Jersey sits on its hands and watches our gaming revenue drift across the river. It’s unacceptable. A Meadowlands racino would be an immediate economic engine for our state, yet leaders refuse to act. I’m renewing my call for racinos because New Jersey can’t afford to keep falling behind while our neighbors eat our lunch.”

Sen. Pennacchio has consistently advocated for racinos, most recently calling for their implementation in February of 2024, saying “a racino at the Meadowlands alone would be a game changer for New Jersey taxpayers” and New Jersey is “leaving untapped money on the table.”
