New large scale gaming hall given the greenlight in Uruguay
The General Directorate of Casinos (DGC) has approved the installation of a new gambling hall in the city of Maldonado.
The approval came through a resolution signed by former Minister Azucena Arbeleche, which specifies that the cost of the construction is UYU 38 million, equivalent to about US$ 896,000, including taxes. The tender for the construction of the facility was awarded to the construction company MTA S.A.
The chosen location for the new hall is in Maldonado, near the city centre and the bus terminal. Additionally, it will be part of a complex that includes a shopping centre and plans to construct four towers.
The new gambling hall will be exclusively for the operation of slot machines, and according to projections from the MEF, the investment is expected to be recouped in a minimum period of two years.
According to the DGC, the chosen location for the construction of the new slot hall is “strategic” as the shopping centre is just a few blocks from the city centre. “Situated within a complex that includes a shopping centre and plans to construct four towers, it represents an unmatched combination of factors that offers a unique opportunity,” the DGC said.
Maldonado is near popular tourist destinations such as Punta del Este. The region attracts both local residents and international visitors, especially during the summer months.
