Norway – Norsk Tipping introduces temporary measures to curb problem gambling

By - 2 December 2020

Norsk Tipping has reduced the loss limit on its high-risk games by 25 per cent as one of several measures the company has implemented to tackle problem gambling.

Daily limits are to be cut by 50 per cent during December and January with a mandatory break required for players who have been playing continuously for an hour increased from 90 seconds to 15 minutes.

“We know that gambling problems are increasing in the population, and that December is our biggest gambling month. The measures against covid-19 mean that more people can experience spending more time alone than they usually do during the Christmas month. For vulnerable players, this can lead to more gambling, and we want to prevent that,” commented Åsne Havnelid, CEO of Norsk Tipping.

Most measures are limited to the end of January. Norsk Tipping has stated that is working on measures that will reverse the negative development in the population in the long term.
