Betting companies are requesting that the President of the Chamber of Deputies review the bill limiting advertising before it goes to a vote. As reported by the newspaper Metrópoles, representatives from sports betting and online gaming firms have appealed to Chamber President Hugo Motta concerning the legislation that a Senate committee has approved, which aims to restrict advertising in their industry. They hope the deputy can “slow down” the bill’s progress and facilitate discussions in committees so that modifications to the text may be considered.

In the Federal Senate President Davi Alcolumbre conducted the process quickly. The proposal was approved in plenary session after being passed by the Sports Committee. Representatives of betting companies have requested Motta to allow the text to be analysed by the thematic committees of the Chamber, which would slow down the legislative process.

Representatives from betting companies argue that various sectors are invested in the proposed changes to the legislation. Notably, football clubs with commercial partnerships with these platforms are among those concerned. Television broadcasters also express unease regarding the changes, as they rely on advertising from this sector.

In May the Sports Commission in the Senate approved the project that prohibits the display of betting site brands in stadiums, uniforms, and any communication related to sporting events. The bill also imposes a raft of other changes including a ban on advertising campaigns featuring digital influencers and public figures.
