Peru – Casinos in Peru get green light to reopen at 40 per cent of capacity

By - 8 December 2020

Casinos in Peru will be allowed to reopen at 40 per cent capacity following a decree focussing on Phase 4 of the Economic Recovery, confirmed by the head of the Ministry of Production, Jose Luis Chicoma.

Peru’s 50-odd casinos and 750 slot halls have been closed for nine month. They have been told that they must stick to social distancing protocols, with players and staff wearing face masks and equipment and surfaces being disinfected rigorously.

Before they can open, casino and slot hall owners must send a ‘Plan for the surveillance, prevention and control of COVID-19 at work’, to the Ministry of Health.
Mr. Chicoma said: “In joint work with the Ministry of Health (Minsa) and the companies of movie theatres and gymnasiums, we have developed the operating protocols for these activities, in order to care for and preserve the health and life of people avoiding the spread of COVID-19.”

“We have complied with the gradualness and responsibility of opening up economic activity by prioritising the recommendations of the Minsa, but giving the opportunity to companies and their workers to benefit from the greater demand for goods and services associated with the Christmas holidays.”
