Philippines – Bloomberry pulls out of partnership with PH Resorts for casinos in Cebu and Clarke

By - 24 March 2023

Bloomberry Resorts, owner of Manila’s Solaire Resort, has pulled the plug on its involvement in Emerald Bay in Cebu and The Base Resort Hotel and Casino in Clark, both being developed by PH Resorts Group, ‘after considering the results of due diligence on the target companies and the projects.’

PH Resorts Group President Raymundo Martin M Escalona said: “This now allows both parties to pursue their own plans. This development gives PH Resorts Group the opportunity to re-enter into discussions with other parties that were previously put into the backburner due to the contemplated investment by Bloomberry.”

PH Resorts Group remains hopeful that the projects will still be completed. Emerald Bay has been designed by Paul Steelman and would have a 4,154 sq. m. gaming floor with 600 slots, 122 gaming tables and a 270-room five-star hotel in its first phase. The second pase would see an extra 729 slot machines, 146 gaming tables and 780 five-star hotel rooms. The Base Resort Hotel and Casino is being developed in the former Clark Air Base in Pampanga, north of Manila. The Base was due to open in 2022 with 600 electronic gaming machines, 100 gaming tables and 400 hotel rooms along with shops and restaurants.

PH Resorts said the decision to delay had been taken ‘due to some lingering uncertainties surrounding the casino gaming industry, especially with more competition in the Clark, Pampanga location.’
