Philippines – Leisure and Resorts World ‘looking forward’ to resuming Boracay talks with Galaxy

By - 2 September 2021

Leisure and Resorts World Corp (LRWC) has said it has yet to talk to its former project partner Galaxy Entertainment over relaunching its bid to build a casino-resort on the Philippine holiday island of Boracay.

Leisure and Resorts World said: “We would like to clarify that the company has yet to talk to our partner, Galaxy. The company is looking forward to the resumption of the discussions with Galaxy in view of the President’s go-signal for casino operation in Boracay.”

Philippine President Duterte lifted the ban he’d imposed on new casino developments in Boracay, last week saying there was a need for investment into the economy following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque said: “The President has given his go-signal allowing the operation of a casino in Boracay. Prior to this directive, casino establishments have not been operating in the island. Casino operation in Boracay shall follow restrictions such as the observance of safety and health protocols imposed in view of the current Covid-19 pandemic and ensuring safeguards to keep children or minors away from gambling activities.”
