Philippines – PAGCOR closes Tagaytay casino following volcano warning

By - 14 January 2020

PAGCOR, the Philippines gaming regulator and casino operator, has closed Casino Filipino in Tagaytay temporarily following the recent eruption of the Taal Volcano, which has seen 8,000 people being evacuated.

The authorities have warned that a ‘hazardous’ eruption could soon follow.

PAGCOR said: “The Philippine institute of Volcanology and Seismology has raised Alert Level 4, imminent hazardous eruption is expected to affect Tagaytay City and nearby areas. Resumption of operations of our casino branch in the city is indefinite as the safety of both our employees and customers is of foremost importance. PAGCOR is committed to provide assistance to our displaced and affected fellow citizens.”

The Taal Volcano may be small but it is the second most active in the Philippines, having seen 34 eruptions in the last 450 years.
