Poland – Poland’s Ministry of Finance issue two more online sports betting licences

By - 5 December 2018

Poland’s Ministry of Finance has approved two online sports betting licenses to Typiko Sp. z. oo and Traf-Zakłady Wzajemne Sp. z oo, taking the total number of licensed online operators in Poland to 14.

Bielsko-Biala –based Typiko Sp. z. oo, is a fairly new player on the marker, having only been registered two years ago.
Traf-Zakłady Wzajemne Sp. z oo is a land-based horse racing operator in Warsaw, which is affiliated to Totalizator Sportowy, the state-run lottery.

The two new approvals have come about due to the 2016 amendments to the country’s gambling laws. The total number of online sports betting licences issued this year is seven, meaning that the quota approved in 2017 is now full.

Trade association the Employers of the Republic of Poland has previously criticised the government for making it difficult for local operators from competing with internationally-licensed gambling sites.

Online sports betting has helped boost revenue for the overall online market by 22 per cent year-on-year to €2.7bn in 2017.
Totalizator Sportowy, which will be the first only to offer an online casino, is set to launch its iLotto website through its deal with Playtech.
