Portugal – Online GGR reaches record €84.2m

Latest figures from Portugal’s national regulator Serviço de Regulação e Inspeção de Jogos (SRIJ) show that online GGR reached a record €84.2m in the third quarter of 2020, over 50 per cent higher than in the corresponding period the preceding year.

Sports betting betting revenue drove the majority of online gambling revenue (€42.5m). Football took nearly four fifths of wagers placed, ahead of tennis and basketball.

Online casino revenue totalled €41.7m, with slots accounting for 70 per cent ahead of roulette, blackjack, poker and tournaments. Overall online casino revenue was down 12.9 per cent on Q2 as consumers switched to sports betting with the return of major sporting competitions.

156,000 consumers registered for new accounts in Q3 across the 24 licensed operators active in the country.
