Portugal – Only Estoril rising in Portugal

Estoril is currently the only casino in Portugal in better financial health this year than last. Over the past five years, the Portuguese sector has lost more than a third of its revenue. 

However Casino Estoril closed the first nine months of the year on a high, having generated €47.1m by September, €1.2m more than in the same period last year, reflecting an annual growth of 2.6 per cent.

The remaining 10 Portuguese casinos continue to accumulate losses of revenue. Until September, the sector turnover less than €12m a year ago, representing an annual decrease of 5.5 per cent to €206.7m

Much was expected of Casino Lisboa, however it GGR of €218m for the first nine months was down 3.1 per cent over the same period in 2012.

Until the end of September, the casino was giving away daily average prizes of a daily average of more than €798,000 making 2013 in the words of the casino ‘a year that is to be memorable for many of our customers.’
