President of Buenos Aires Lottery confirms casino tenders

By - 10 September 2024

The President of the Provincial Institute of Lotteries and Casinos (IPLyC) Gonzalo Atanasof met with union representatives and confirmed the progress of seven tenders for the casinos in the province of Buenos Aires.

Atanasof made the announcement during a tour of the Central Casino in Mar del Plata, coinciding with preparations for the summer season. This visit followed discussions with representatives from sector unions regarding the tendering process for the Hermitage, Sasso, Miramar, Mar de Ajó, Tandil, Sierra, and Necochea casinos. Currently, these establishments are managed through direct contracting. In May, the Buenos Aires provincial government, via the IPLyC, extended the management contracts with Boldt until December 31, 2024, solidifying an agreement to maintain operational continuity through the end of the year.

“We confirmed Governor Axel Kicillof’s decision to move forward with the pending tenders. We need investments that provide predictability for jobs. That’s why we listened to the union’s suggestions; we want to generate stability for workers and demand improvements in both facilities and working conditions,” stated Atanasof.

The meeting was attended by Roberto Páez, General Secretary of the Association of Administrative Employees, Maintenance, and Casino Services (AMS), Marcos Labrador, President of the National Casino Employees Association (AECN), and the Director of the Central Casino, Fernando Mogni.

The news comes after reports emerged that the IPLyC was planning to publish the call for bids for the procurement of slot machines in the gaming hall of the Necochea Casino.

In March Governor Kicillof expressed his commitment to reclaiming the Necochea Casino Complex. During a visit to the city, he held a press conference addressing the building’s status. The casino was closed down by the IPLyC and was temporarily housed in a nearby theatre in 2015 for urgent repairs as the building posed a safety risk. In May Atanasof met with the mayor of Necochea  Arturo Rojas to discuss the future of the casino complex. During the visit, Atanasof toured the gaming hall and the abandoned complex with local authorities.
