Public consultation on regulatory agenda for Brazilian gambling board ends this week
The public consultation for the construction of the regulatory agenda of the Secretariat for Prizes and Betting (SPA/MF) for the 2025-2026 biennium will close on Thursday. The agenda is set to be published on April 4. Therefore, individuals and companies interested until then to express their written opinions on the proposed regulatory agenda via the Participa + Brasil platform.
The public consultation was launched on February 10 during a press conference at the Ministry of Finance. Individuals, companies, and other interested parties had two ways to participate: by expressing themselves during the public hearing held on February 21 or by submitting written suggestions through the Participa + Brasil platform, which will close on Thursday.
For the current biennium, the agenda includes significant changes. First, themes under the SPA’s responsibility that were previously excluded in 2024 have been included, such as commercial promotions and instant lotteries (Lotex). The creation of a database of bettors prohibited from placing bets (due to law or self-exclusion) is one of the top priorities on the agenda.
After the first public hearing, last month the secretary of Prizes and Betting at the Ministry of Finance, Regis Dudena, commented that the participants’ statements closely aligned with the ideas of the SPA itself, including “some suggestions for new things, new solutions to identified problems,” he said.
Among the 45 comments made by participants in the hearing, notable concerns included issues related to responsible gaming and combating illegal gambling.
