Puerto Rico – Puerto Rico hands out sports betting licences and betting supplier licences

By - 3 April 2023

The Puerto Rico Gaming Commission has issued various types of sports betting licenses to nine companies, including an online licence to Bet MGM, full sports betting licences to ASF LTD and Sports Content Co and various supplier licences to Global Tote US, Kambi Malta, United Tote and the International Betting Integrity Association.

Retail sports betting began at Pueto Rico’s casinos last year but Commission Executive Director Jaime Rivera- Emmanuelli believes online betting is now very close.

“Once certain final details are clarified, the door to online betting will officially open, from anywhere, using mobile devices such as smartphones and computers,” he said. “Puerto Rico will quickly catch up with the states that have legalized sports betting. The island has the appeal of drawing a broad and culturally diverse audience, while having the security, controls and regulations that the United States requires of its jurisdictions,.”

The International Betting Integrity Association offers an anti-corruption monitoring tool designed to identify and report suspicious bets.

Two other companies were licensed as betting service providers, ASF LTD and Sports Content Co., which specialize in data collection.

The commission granted BetMGM, which already offers services to Casino del Mar, a second license. It already has a betting platform provider license for the in-person betting, but has now been granted an internet gambling platform provider.
