South Korea – Advantech brings Interactive Digital Signage With Temperature Check to market

By - 29 July 2020

Amid the COVId-19 pandemic, digital signage kiosks with contactless temperature measurement capabilities offer a promising solution for containing the spread of the virus. With this in mind Advantech is bringing the Interactive Digital Siganage With Temperature Check to market.

In an effort to respond to the current situation, AI and big data are being adopted to provide innovative and safe methods of containing the spread of infection. The customer for this project, SQISOFT, is a famous all-in-one smart signage service provider in South Korea.

SQISOFT has integrated digital signage players with facial recognition capabilities and an IR thermographic camera to provide a kiosk system that can deliver contactless temperature measurements, advertisement displays, and safety notifications. The smart digital signage kiosk can recognise visitors with registered facial data, identify visitors who have a fever or elevated temperature, and detect whether visitors are wearing a mask. If the system detects elevated temperatures or a lack of mask wearing, it sends an alert to the centralised control room. The system also uses the mean value theorem, which minimises temperature measurement errors caused by ambient temperature. These interactive smart digital signage kiosks will be deployed widely in airports, shopping malls, and public spaces throughout Seoul.

Modern demands for digital signage kiosks include bigger and brighter screens, as well as significantly thinner cabinets. Digital signage players deployed for indoor applications should be slim enough to be easily integrated into cabinets. Additionally, high-performance computing capabilities are required to process and analyze images captured by the camera, measure temperatures, and display advertisements. The player must also support wireless connectivity and be capable of transmitting temperature data in real time.

For this project, the customer adopted Advantech’s DS-082 ultra-slim 4K digital signage player and UCAM-220TT IR thermographic camera. The DS-082 player is only 19 mm thick, allowing it to be easily installed into cabinets. Powered by AMD Ryzen R100 processors and an AMD VEGA GPU with up to 11 computing units, DS-082 can handle multi-task operations such as temperature checking, facial recognition, and multimedia content broadcasting. DS-082 offers diverse I/O for connecting with a range of devices, including an RJ-45 connector for the IR camera, HDMI 2.0 interface for a screen display, and M.2 interface for Wi-Fi connectivity. Moreover, DS-082 is integrated with Advantech’s WISE-PaaS/SignageCMS content management software for easy signage network management. WISE-PaaS/SignageCMS allows users to easily edit, layout, schedule, and dispatch signage content. An up-to-date scheduling function is also available to allow real-time management of display information and advertising campaigns. Overall, DS-082 simplifies digital signage network management and offers a reduced total cost of ownership and accelerated time-to-market.
