South Korea – Landing forced to delay Jeju Shinhwa World Casino opening

By - 4 January 2018

Landing International is delaying the opening of its Jeju Shinhwa World Casino on South Korea’s Jeju Island due to delays by the Jeju Special Self-Governing Provincial Council in ruling on a relocation request.

The foreigner only casino was due to open on January 28 to a later date due with the hope that approvals will be granted by February. Back in August, Landing confirmed its decision to relocate a gaming licence from the Hyatt Regency Jeju Hotel to Jeju Shinhwa World. The old casino operated 28 gaming tables and 16 slots and electronic table games with landing wanting to up this to 160 gaming tables and 240 slots and electronic table games.

Some of the 1,900 staff Landing has hired are concerned they will lose their positions due to the delay of the casino’s relocation.

The entire development of JSW is expected to be completed by the end of 2019, when the luxury Four Seasons Resort & Spa, and the first Hollywood movies inspired outdoor theme park Lionsgate Movie World are scheduled to be ready for operation.
