By - 15 August 2019

The administration of Extremadura has 30 days to check the documentation put forward by Cora Alpha for the proposed Elysium City mega resort project in Spain. The US company backing the casino resort filed the required documentation on Friday.

In accordance with the provisions of Law 7/2018, the local government has a period of 30 days to verify of all the documentation provided by the company. Once this deadline is met, it must issue a technical dossier on how the project meets the government requirements as set out by the Extremadura Law of Large Leisure Facilities.

If necessary, the local government may request more information. Once this report has been prepared, the project will be submitted to a public consultation for 45 days. Any entity or individual may submit its opposition or arguments against the project. From that moment, the administration has another two months at most to decide to give the project the go ahead or not. Cora Alpha intends to begin work on the leisure park by the end of this year.

According to Cora Alpha the new complex will create about 15,000 jobs for five years.

The President of Extremadura Guillermo Fernández Vara first announced the new measures to allow for a large-scale leisure facilities in the area in March 2018. In April, the new bill received the favourable opinion of the Council of State. In July, the Assembly of Extremadura approved the bill.

In May this year it was announced that Elysium City had taken another step closer to becoming a reality after an agreement was reached between Cora Alpha and Agostar Group PLC a publicly traded company in the United Kingdom, specialising in the development and infrastructure of large-scale projects in order to develop the Elysium City mega project.

Agostar Group PLC is a publicly traded company in the United Kingdom specializing in the development and infrastructure of large-scale projects. Elysium City will be the first major smart sustainable city project in Europe planned and built from scratch, considering the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the UN. In addition, the project will place Castilbanco and Extremadura as a unique destination at an international scale.
