Spain – Spanish online market grows by 32 per cent

The online gaming sector in Spain is growing according to the most recent report published by The Directorate General for the Regulation of Gambling (DGOJ).

According to this year’s second report on Spain’s online gaming market, for the quarter starting from April and ending June the total amount played online stood at €2,731.98m an increase of 2.64 per cent over the first quarter of 2016 and 32.80 per cent compared to the same quarter last year.

According to the latest report GGR for the quarter stood at €98.84m a decrease of 3.40 per cent compared to the first quarter of 2016 but an increase of 56.34 per cent compared to the second quarter last year.

Meanwhile the total amount of deposits during the quarter stood at €289.59m an increase of 6.80 per cent and an increase from the same quarter in 2015 of 47.39 per cent.

The latest report states that prizes handed out stood at €2.633,13m, an increase of 2.88 per cent over the previous quarter and 32.06 per cent compared to the same quarter last year. However while total bets made via online casinos increased by 9.70 per cent and sports betting increased by 1.47 per cent, both poker and bingo reported decreases of 8.41 per cent and 9.61 per cent respectively.

Of the total amounts played sports betting came in first place with 49.43 per cent of the market share. Casino gaming came in second place with 36.11 per cent and poker came in third place and stood at 13.78 per cent. Bingo accounted for 0.62 per cent of the total amount played while betting on online competitions accounted for 0.06 per cent. In terms of GGR and market share sports betting accounted for 54.10 per cent, casino gaming stood at 28.40 per cent, poker stood at 13.91 per cent, bingo 2.20 per cent while gaming via online competitions accounted for 1.39 per cent of the market.
For online casinos the total amount bet increased by 65.64 compared to the same period last year as did GGR which increased by 91.22 per cent (it should however be pointed out that online slots were only granted a licence to operate on June 2nd 2015). Of the €986.54m gambled via online casinos roulette came in first place with €501.77m (50.86 per cent). €298.30m was bet via online slots (30.24 percent). €186.20m was bet on Blackjack (18.87 percent). €0.24m (0,02 per cent) was bet on Punto Banco while €0.03m was bet (0.01 per cent) on Complementary Games (games which include an element of skill or knowledge).

Meanwhile GGR for online casinos stood at €28.07m. Roulette came in first place with €11.88m (42.30 per cent of GGR) beating GGR for online slots which stood at €11.70m (41.67 per cent). GGR for Blackjack stood €4.49m (16.01 per cent) while GGR for Complementary Games stood at €1.389m. In last place came Punto Banco GGR for which stood at €0.01m. (0.02 per cent).

Meanwhile, the number of registered users during the period stood at 604,392 an increase over the previous quarter of 9.80 per cent, and a 61.65 per cent increase compared to the same quarter last year.
