Sweden – Spelinspektionen fines Paf and Genesis over self-exclusion lapse

By - 25 March 2019

Spelinspektionen, the Swedish Gambling Authority has fined Genesis Global Limited and Paf Consulting Corporation over failures to adhere to self-exclusion rules.

Genesis, which operates casinojoy.com, spel.com, casinocruise.com, spinit.com, sloty.com, vegashero, com, pelaa.com and casinogods.com was fined SEK4,000,000 ($432,340) for its failures. Paf, who operates, paf.com and paf.se, was fined SEK100,000 fine ($10,800).

The launch of the market also saw the launch of a self-exclusion tool called Spelpaus.se. This allows gamblers who want to stop gambling time to register which will stop them spending money on all Swedish licensed casino and betting sites.
All licensed operators must have a ‘functioning connection’ to Spelhaus.se and must not connect players on it.

Spelinspektionen’s Press Officer My Hamrén said: “An important part of the new gaming regulation is strong consumer protection and that the negative effects of games should be limited. The fact that licensed gaming companies have a functioning connection to Spelpaus.se is of the utmost importance for counteracting social and economic damages and problem gambling. The Gaming Inspectorate will therefore continue to focus on supervision of this area. Those who join Spelpaus.se turn off from all licensed games in Sweden that require registration. In addition, the gaming companies must not send direct mail to those who have turned off.”
