The Swiss Casino Association has confirmed that every casino in Switzerland has voluntarily committed to a binding, common player protection code that goes beyond the legal requirements. It includes effective and sustainable protective measures for their guests.

This player protection code clearly distinguishes licensed casinos in Switzerland from illegal foreign operators who continually circumvent the legal provisions for player protection and do not even pay contributions to the AHV (Old Age and Survivors’ Insurance). Players in Switzerland must be protected from illegal online casinos.

Dr. Gerhard Pfister, President of the Swiss Casino Association, said: “Casinos have decades of experience in player protection. With this code, they outline the most important measures, particularly the training of their staff, restrained advertising, and the protection of minors. This clearly distinguishes them from illegal operators who offer no player protection and do not pay contributions to the AHV.”

Each casino must provide dedicated staff who are specifically trained in player protection. Each casino establishes criteria for the early detection of at-risk individuals, taking into account the different risks for terrestrial and online gambling. For at-risk individuals, the financial circumstances must be assessed based on pay slips, bank documents, and living conditions. Individuals who gamble beyond their means will be banned. Young people under 18 are not allowed to play. Young adults over 18 are protected by special measures.

Swiss casinos must refrain from TV advertising before 10 p.m. Online casinos use the message “Play responsibly.” Aggressive advertising originates from illegal casinos.

The effectiveness of the protective measures must be regularly reviewed and further developed in collaboration with experts. Casinos must provide information about the risks of gambling and offer support services.
