Switzerland – Only six Swiss operators have applied for online licences

By - 3 April 2019

Of the 21 casinos holding a federal grant type A or B, only six have so far applied to expand their gambling offering online.

With the introduction of the new Swiss law on gambling, operators have been legally allowed to launch online since January 1.

In French-speaking Switzerland, the casino in Neuchâtel should be the first to open its site. The case has been filed before the Federal House Commission (CFMJ), which must validate each proposed game. The Federal Council will then make its decision.
The majority shareholder of Neuchâtel is Berne Casino, which also filed a file. For poker, casinos will be able to use international operators.
A dozen people will be recruited by the casino of Neuchâtel for the design and the management of the site.
The provisions on the blocking of websites offering unauthorized games will come into effect from July 1.
