Switzerland – Swiss Casinos submits licence application for casino in Oftringen

By - 23 January 2023

Swiss Casinos has now submitted the licence application for a new casino in Oftringen, in the district of Zofingen in the canton of Aargau.

It is hoping that the Federal Council will decide on the award of the concession in October this year with the plan to open on January 1, 2025.

The casino would be located in the modern multi-complex Campfield, on one of Switzerland’s main transport axes, right next to the A1 and A2 motorways. With over 300 parking spaces and within walking distance of public transport stops, the multi-complex can be reached quickly and easily. A hotel, various restaurants and many other interesting offers are planned in the modern commercial property. It would create around 70 new jobs.

The operator stated: “Swiss Casinos wants to enrich the regional nightlife offer on around 3000 square meters with a casino. Saunier Group Holding AG, representative of the owners and project developer of the property, is happy to complement the impressive property with an attractive partner.”

Nadia Lamia, Member of the Board of Directors of Saunier Group Holding, said: “We are convinced that the Campfield building in Oftringen is just right for Swiss Casinos as well as for the nightlife enthusiast.”

With a catchment area of more than 100,000 inhabitants, Oftringen is one of the up-and-coming municipalities in the Swiss Plateau.

Hanspeter Schläfli, mayor of Oftringen, said: “In terms of population, Oftringen is growing by around two percent annually. It is therefore becoming increasingly important that jobs are also created locally. The settlement of Swiss Casinos is not only a great enrichment for Oftringen, but for the entire region. I am very pleased with the plans of Switzerland’s largest casino group.

Swiss Casinos will be involved in the region beyond its business activities with cultural and social commitments. Marc Baumann, CEO of Swiss Casinos, said: “The quality of life in Switzerland is close to our hearts. That’s why we are happy to support cultural and social organizations that promote social cohesion with their commitment.”

“We are pleased that the municipality of Oftringen supports our concession application and that we will be able to enrich the Mittelland with an attractive entertainment offer from 2025,” continues Marc Baumann. The Government Council of the Canton of Aargau has been informed about the project of Swiss Casinos.

Despite partial overlap with the casinos of Baden, Basel and Lucerne, Swiss Casinos believes there is a gap in the Swiss casino landscape.

The Board of Directors has nominated Melanie Herzog as the future director of the casino in Oftringen, it was said. She has been managing Casino Schaffhausen since 2017.

Swiss Casinos Holding AG, headquartered in Zurich, is the sole shareholder of the casinos in Pfäffikon ZH, Schaffhausen and Zurich. She holds the majority of Casino St. Gallen.
