The Netherlands – Dutch and Belgian gaming authorities sign online agreement

By - 10 March 2021

The Dutch Gaming Authority Kansspelautoriteit (KSA) and its Belgian colleague, the Belgium Gaming Commission, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to better support each other in their supervisory tasks when it comes to online gaming.

This includes the exchange of general information, for example about best practices. More specific information can also be exchanged, for example in the context of enforcement and licensing. The document mentions common goals, such as combating crime, protecting the player and preventing gambling addiction. René Jansen, chairman of the board of directors, signed on behalf of the Ksa. The Chairman Magali Clavie signed for the Gaming Commission. Both supervisors already cooperated on an informal basis.

Mr. Jansen said: “Such a Memorandum of Understanding forms a good basis for sharing knowledge, collaboration and a smooth exchange of information. At the same time, a clear signal is sent to providers of games of chance that they are joining forces internationally.”

Ms. Clavie: “Online games of chance are offered across borders. As a result, there is a greater need for international cooperation between regulators on (online) games of chance. Information exchanges with foreign colleagues are always very instructive.”

The KSA previously concluded cooperation agreements with the regulators in Malta, France and Sweden.
