The Netherlands – Holland Casino brings World Poker Tour to the Netherlands

By - 20 March 2015

The World Poker Tour has announced a partnership with Holland Casino that will span four years and see both WPT Main Tour and WPT National events held annually at the casino’s venues.

WPT President Adam Pliska said: “We are proud to announce our partnership with Holland Casino, and to bring both the WPT Main Tour and the WPT National Tour to two world-class properties in the Netherlands. The Dutch have a rich history in poker, including various final table appearances on the World Poker Tour, and we look forward to creating more memories with top professionals and aspiring players alike over the next four years.”

The first event to take place under the new endeavour will be WPT Amsterdam. The festival will run May 9 to 16, with the €3,300 Main Event starting on May 11. This Main Event will feature two starting days and players will be allowed one reentry per day. There will be €330 single-reentry satellites to the Main Event held on May 8 at 2 p.m. and May 9-11 at 6 p.m. All times are local.

Also on the schedule for WPT Amsterdam will be a €6,000 High Roller with unlimited reentry until the start of Day 2, a€1,500 Big Stack with single reentry, and several other events ranging in buy-ins of €300 to €750.

For players, this announcement will be of particular interest because it allows those seeking big poker action a way to piggyback off of the PokerStars and Monte-Carlo Casino European Poker Tour Grand Final that will conclude on May 8. Travelling to WPT Amsterdam immediately after will not only give players the chance to play another major live poker tournament, but they will be able to stay in Europe for the 2015 Spring Championship of Online Poker held on PokerStars and planned for May 10-24.
Furthermore, the WPT announced that it will return to the Netherlands at the end of September for WPT National Valkenburg. This event will begin Sept. 30 with a €1,500 High Roller, and then the €750 Main Event will come after.

In 2014, Niels van Leeuwen topped a field of 402 entries to win WPT National Valkenburg — the first-ever WPT stop in the country. He earned €40,000 for the victory and defeated a final table that included Marcel Luske and Joep van den Bijgaart.
