PokerStars Team Online’s Alex Millar was the big winner at the 2013 British Poker Awards, taking home two awards including the prestigious Player of the Year trophy.

Mr. Millar, who is known as ‘Kanu7’ online, added the Best Online Cash Player award after a phenomenal 2013 where he won more than $2m in cash games.

“Thanks for the messages everyone and thanks to everyone who voted for me as well as to Bluff Europe for hosting and picking me as Player of the Year,” Millar tweeted after the event.

All the biggest names on the UK poker scene attended the ceremony, which took place on Monday night at the famous Hippodrome Casino in London’s West End, and was organised by Bluff Europe and sponsored by PokerStars.com.

Those in attendance included Sam Trickett, and PokerStars Team Pro members Liv Boeree and Victoria Coren. Mr. Trickett won two awards himself – Best Live Tournament Player and Best Live Cash Player – while Barny Boatman won the Lifetime Achievement Award as well as taking home Performance of the Year for his World Series of Poker bracelet win in Las Vegas.

Trickett was humbled by his Live Tournament Player of the Year award, heaping praise on fellow nominee Matt Ashton and saying “It shows what an amazing following I have built up over the last few years – thank you everybody for your support.”

Another of this year’s winners, Online Tournament Player of the Year Chris ‘Moorman1’ Moorman, sent in an acceptance speech from Los Angeles, where he is chasing his first World Poker Tour final table.

Those behind the scenes were also recognised for their contribution, with Toby Stone named Tournament Director of the Year and Tony Kendall rewarded for his contribution to growing and promoting poker.

The EPT London took the honours as the Best UK Tournament while Dusk Till Dawn was voted the UK’s best card room.

After the ceremony, pros including Boeree, Boatman, PokerStars Team Online member Mickey Petersen, and Full Tilt Poker ambassador Sin Melin took part in a bounty tournament, with winner Tom Cirulis earning a seat in this weekend’s Hippodrome Spring Classic, worth £250.

“British poker is stronger than ever, and the talent in attendance this week is testament to that,” said Bluff Europe editor-in-chief Michael Caselli. “On behalf of everyone at Bluff Europe I would like to extend my warmest congratulations to all the winners, not least the 2013 Player of the Year Alex Millar. Thanks to everyone that supported the awards and helped spotlight the best of British poker.”
