Having opened its new Riverlights casino in Derby in the East Midlands, Genting is now looking to consolidated its operations by shutting down its other Derby licence at Friar Gate.
Genting said all 41 staff affected will be offered the ‘opportunity to apply’ for available positions at the Genting’s casino at Riverlights.
A spokesman said: “The decision to put forward this proposal has been taken following the successful £6 million development of Genting’s new premises in Derby, Genting Club Riverlights, which was completed in November 2011.We have decided to consolidate our operations in Derby and focus our efforts on the superb new facilities we have created at Riverlights so we can satisfy all our customers’ requirements. This decision is consistent with Genting’s ongoing strategy of investment and its commitment to improving quality across the provincial estate and we look forward to continuing investing in our properties to improve the customer experience.”
Genting has already shut down casinos in Manchester and Leicester where it had competing licences, as well as a venue in Great Yarmouth. It has also recently decided to close down Fox Poker Club in London and reopen it with a full casino licence.
