US – Arizona Department of Gaming allocates sports betting licences

By - 1 September 2021

The Arizona Department of Gaming has completed its evaluation period to allocate the ten available tribal event wagering operator licenses. The Department received 16 qualified tribal applications and eight qualified sports team/organization applications during the event wagering operator application process.

“During the rulemaking process for event wagering, the Department made it a priority to gather as much public and stakeholder comment as possible, particularly on aspects such as license allocation,” said Ted Vogt, Department of Gaming Director. “The allocation decision we are announcing today is a direct result of these efforts, helping to ensure the impartiality and fairness of the process for all applicants.”

The allocated Tribal Licenses have gone to Fort Mojave Indian Tribe (SuperBook Sports), Navajo Nation, Quechan Tribe (Unibet Arizona), Tonto Apache Tribe (Churchill Downs), Tohono O’odham Nation, Hualapai Tribe (Golden Nugget), Ak-Chin Indian Community, San Juan Southern Paiute Tribe (Digital
Gaming), San Carlos Apache Tribe (Wynn) and Ft. McDowell Yavapai Nation.

The Sports Team/Organization licenses have gone to Arizona Cardinals (BetMGM), Arizona Diamondbacks (William Hill), Phoenix Suns (FanDuel), Arizona Coyotes, Phoenix Mercury (Ballys), TPC Scottsdale (DraftKings), Phoenix Speedway (Penn National), Arizona Rattlers (Rush Street Interactive).

“I can’t thank the public and stakeholders enough for their feedback and collaboration throughout the event wagering and fantasy sports implementation process, said Ted Vogt, Department of Gaming Director. “This partnership, as well as the hard work of Department staff, has allowed Arizona to be one of the fastest states to operationally start these new games since the passing of the enabling legislation. I am proud of the hard work by all to accomplish this feat and excited to see Arizonans responsibly enjoy legal fantasy sports starting tomorrow, 8/28, as well as event wagering on 9/9!”
