US – Circa to open as first completely new Downtown casino in over 35 years

By - 11 January 2019

Downtown Las Vegas will get its first casino built from the ground up since 1980 with the launch of Circa expected in December 2020.

Developers Derek and Greg Stevens, who own D Casino and Golden Gate both themselves located in Downtown, hosted a public unveiling of their plans and the property’s neon sign at the Downtown Event Center.

Mr.Stevens said: “”There is a lot of unmet demand for fun in Las Vegas. At Circa, our goal is to create a destination resort in a historic part of the city, while showing guests the time of their lives. We plan to double down on the world-class service Las Vegas has always been known for while bringing personalized experiences to a new level.”

Construction is already underway on the 1.25m sq. ft. property. Designed by Steelman Partners, Circa will offer 777 rooms, a range of restaurants, an outdoor bar, and a two-level casino. Two of its most striking elements will be its sportsbook and its swimming pool.

The sportsbook will boast the biggest screen in sportsbook history as well as an in-house broadcast studio created in cooperation with Vegas Stats and Information Network (VISN).

Six multi-tiered swimming pools will adorn the roof allowing 4,000 people to watch 125-foot screen. It will also be the new home for the iconic neon sign “Vegas Vicky. At 44 stories, the hotel will be the tallest north of the Strip. The new casino wants to bring a new energy to Downtown, celebrating the timeless spirit of the city while leading the charge for a bold new era with game-changing guest offerings.

Mr. Stevens added: “This isn’t the best pool downtown or the best pool on the Strip. What we’re doing is developing the best pool in the history of America. We’re building the best sportsbook in the history of America. In my opinion, this is going to bring people from Cleveland, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Cheyenne and Denver. I don’t really view it as competing with any one property. We’re going to have a focus on sports, water, sun, and it’s all themed around fun and high energy. Las Vegas is based upon, doing something bigger, better, more unique and different.”

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman said at the project’s unveiling: “Everybody looks to see what’s next and what’s happening and this Circa takes the lid off. It will bring more business and more focus downtown.”
