US – Clark County gives its support to Las Vegas ballpark proposal

By - 18 May 2023

A new poll shows two-thirds of Clark County voters support Major League Baseball’s Athletics plan to build a state-of-the-art ballpark in Las Vegas.

The analysis, conducted by the Mellman Group for the A’s, represents the findings of a survey of 700 Clark County registered voters fielded between 29 April and 5 May 2023.

“We’re very pleased by these poll numbers and the overall support,” A’s President Dave Kaval said. “We look forward to delivering a world-class ballpark and all the benefits Major League Baseball brings, including jobs, economic and community impacts, and civic pride.”

According to the survey each element of the plan enjoys broad majority, including a public-private partnership and the ballpark location both receiving roughly two-thirds support.

Nearly three-quarters (74 per cent) support the overall proposal. Support is over 60 per cent in all seven County Commission districts. Even after hearing all arguments for and against the proposal, two-thirds (66 per cent) support the plan

Mark Mellman, president of The Mellman Group said: “This poll shows that there is broad support for building a ballpark for the Athletics across party lines, age group, race, and other demographics. Even more notably, there is only limited opposition.”

“Southern Nevadans are excited about the prospect of bringing the A’s to Las Vegas. Major League Baseball on the Las Vegas Strip would be a significant step in our city’s evolution into a vibrant international center of professional sports,” said Mary Beth Sewald, President and CEO of the Vegas Chamber.

“It’s great to see the support for the Athletics coming to Las Vegas. Professional sports unite our community. They boost tourism and our economy, and most importantly, they create jobs. The Latin Chamber proudly supports the Athletics and the construction and long-term jobs a world-class Major League Baseball ballpark will create. Let’s get this ballpark under construction as soon as possible so Las Vegas can also claim the A’s as another hometown team,” said Peter Guzman, President of the Latin Chamber of Commerce.

The proposed 30,000 capacity ballpark will host A’s regular and postseason games, as well as concerts and other special events.
