US – Genting to operate First Light Casino for Mashpee tribe

Genting will operate the First Light Casino destined for Taunton in Southern Massachusetts on behalf of the Mashpee Wampanoag tribe.
The announcement was made just a day after the final plans for the project were released by the tribe.
Mashpee Tribal Chairman Cedric Cromwell said: “Genting is putting up millions and millions and millions, and has never stopped believing in our goal.”
Kevin Jones, President of Genting Massachusetts, added: “Genting will operate the tribal casino on behalf of the tribe. We will operate the casino while helping to build up the capacity of the tribe to operate it themselves. Our role is to work ourselves out of a job on behalf of the tribe.”
The casino will be built on land in Taunton designated as a Native American reservation, meaning it does not need state approval to open a casino.
