By - 7 January 2022

Maryland’s six casinos combined to generate $172,901,502 in gaming revenue during December 2021, making it the second-best month in the history of Maryland’s casino program.

The total represents an increase of $53,545,054 (44.9 per cent) compared to December 2020, when the casinos were operating under capacity restrictions due to COVID-19.

Casino gaming contributions to the state in December 2021 totaled $71,098,308, an increase of $21,306,793 (42.8 per cent) compared to the $49,791,515 contributed to the state in December 2020.

Contributions to the Education Trust Fund (ETF) in December 2021 were $51,736,885, an increase of $15,529,745 (42.9 per cent) compared to the $36,207,140 in ETF contributions during December 2020. Casino gaming revenues also support the communities and jurisdictions where the casinos are located, Maryland’s horse racing industry, and small, minority- and women-owned businesses.

The casinos’ $172.9m performance in December surpassed the $172.4m in gaming revenue generated in May 2021 and trailed only the July 2021 figure of $180.1m.

“The combination of the holiday season and the launch of sports wagering at five of the casinos during December led to great results,” said Maryland Lottery and Gaming Director John Martin. “We congratulate our casino partners for their ongoing success.”

Maryland’s six privately owned casinos offer both slot machines and table games: MGM National Harbor in Prince George’s County; Live! Casino & Hotel in Anne Arundel County; Horseshoe Casino Baltimore in Baltimore City; Ocean Downs Casino in Worcester County; Hollywood Casino Perryville in Cecil County; and Rocky Gap Casino Resort in Allegany County.
