US – MGM National Harbour’s best ever month helps boost Maryland’s December GGR

By - 8 January 2018

A best ever monthly total from MGM National Harbour helped Maryland’s six casinos record their second best ever month with GGR coming in at $141m in December.

MGM National Harbor generated GGR of $56.5m, up 34.9 per cent year-on-year, according to figures released Friday by the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Control Agency in the month that marked its one year birthday.

The property’s hotel has been at full capacity on 242 nights during its first year of operation serving six million guests.

Patrick Fisher, the MGM National Harbor’s Executive Director of hotel operations, said: “We have a great theater with world-class acts, an amazing conservatory that gets changed out five times per year, 15 retail stores, 12 food and beverage outlets, a world-class hotel, spa and salon, so much to offer to anyone that’s coming and looking to be entertained.”

MGM National Harbor lies fifth in the list of MGM’s most profiable casinos with the Bellagio and MGM Grand Las Vegas coming in first and second.

The best ever GGR for Maryland’s casino revenue record was set in March when the state’s casinos generated $141.2m.

However without MGM’s contribution, the other five casinos saw GGR fall by 13.1 per cent in revenue when compared with November 2016.

The second top earning casino, Live! Casino & Hotel saw its GGR fall by13.5 per cent to $43.4m whilst Horseshoe Casino Baltimore was down 20.3 per cent to $22.7m. Of the other venues, Ocean Downs increased by 2.7 per cent to hit $3.9m in revenue, Hollywood Casino Perryville increased by 2.6 per cent to reach $5.7m in revenue whilst Rocky Gap Casino Resort saw a jump of 8.4 per cent to record $4.1m in revenue.
The coming year should see plenty of expansion for the existing casinos. Ocean Downs, currently the only casino without table games, will be adding blackjack, craps and three-card poker to its offerings. Live! Casino is investing $200m to build a 17-story hotel, spa, 1,500-seat concert venue, more restaurants, and more parking, in the first quarter of 2018. Horseshoe will open a restaurant headed by Food Network’s Giada De Laurentiis.
