US – National Indian Gaming Association postpones 2020 tradeshow and convention

By - 15 March 2020

The National Indian Gaming Association Board of Directors and Chairman Ernie Stevens Jr., are officially announcing today that the Association will be postponing the 2020 Indian Gaming Tradeshow and Convention in San Diego scheduled on March 24 to 27.

At an emergency meeting today of the Board of Directors, the National Indian Gaming Association voted unanimously to postpone the event.

The decision to postpone the annual gaming convention comes after, among other developments, California Governor Gavin Newsom’s Executive Order addressing California’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The NIGA Board of Directors was also driven by the overwhelming critical safety concerns voiced by many tribal governments and the gaming industry.

National Indian Gaming Association Chairman, Ernie Stevens, Jr., stated: “The health and safety of our tribal gaming attendees are of paramount concern and postponing the Indian Gaming Tradeshow, for now, is the safest course of action. Our Board of Directors and Association staff will work diligently on the best path forward for all impacted attendees in light of this postponement.”

Clarion added: “We want to express our concern and sympathies for everyone impacted by COVID-19/Coronavirus. Leading up to the 2020 Indian Gaming Tradeshow & Convention we have been supporting our partners at the National Indian Gaming Association as we work closely with national, tribal, and state public health officials to determine the best course of action to ensure the health and safety of all of tribal communities, exhibitors, attendees and staff. In light of the recent announcement by the governor of California to limit any meeting of more than 250 attendees, we support the National Indian Gaming Association as they announced today the postponement of the 2020 event.

“The National Indian Gaming Association continues to support the needs and interests of Indian Country and the gaming community and because of that looks forward to providing more details in the coming weeks regarding the new dates of the 2020 event. With the support of the community we look forward to continuing to provide the resources, education, and celebration of our great gaming industry that is the hallmark of the annual Indian Gaming Tradeshow & Convention.

“We will be doing outreach directly to registered attendees and exhibitors with detailed information shortly, and ask that you bear with us through this time. If you have made hotel reservations through Connections Housing, your reservation will be cancelled immediately and you will receive a confirmation, there is no need to call to cancel your reservation. Both the National Indian Gaming Association and Clarion Gaming would like to thank all of the Tribal Leaders, exhibitors, sponsors, members, attendees and staff for their support through this decision.”

The National Indian Gaming Association will provide updates as they become available regarding the next steps after postponement.
