US – Nevada casino workers told to wear masks

By - 22 July 2021

The Clark County Commission has voted to reintroduce the mandatory wearing of face masks by casino employees across Nevada jurisdiction, with the ruling being imposed for any staff members working in indoor public spaces.

Several Las Vegas casino operators, including Sands, have pushed to reimpose mask mandates for employees regardless of vaccination status, following new recommendations from the Southern Nevada Health District (SNHD).

Commissioner Jim Gibson said: “We have to do something because we can’t afford to allow hospitals to become [even worse] in terms of their crowding. We have already been through a shutdown and a start-up. We cannot afford to have major conventions choose to go elsewhere.”

Governor Steve Sisolak said: “I support the Clark County Commission for using their local authority to issue this mitigation measure amid significant community transmission in Southern Nevada and as we continue our joint effort to increase access and confidence in the COVID-19 vaccines. The State remains completely committed to provide every resource and support available to all of our counties as we see a rise in cases among the unvaccinated, driven by the Delta variant.”
