By - 31 January 2022

The New York State Gaming Commission has confirmed that the first 16 days of sports betting in the state saw players spend a total of $1.18bn with gross revenue coming in at $91.4m, making it on course to secure the highest handle of any state in a month.

Caesars Interactive was the frontrunner with a market share in terms of handle of 41 per cent and a revenue share of 46 per cent. FanDuel was next with a 31 per cent handle share and 26 per cent revenue share, with DraftKings coming third with 23 per cent handle share and 24 per cent revenue share.

In fourth place was BetMGM with a low revenue share of only three per cent and three per cent handle share, although it missed the first week of operations. BetRivers came last with 1.9 per cent of handle, 1.3 per cent of revenue.

BetMGM CEO Adam Greenblatt said: “We’re delighted with how it’s gone. We’ve broken all of our records. It was the best first day of any live launch, we broke records for most registrations, for most first-time depositors, for deposits, for bets, for handle.”

Over 1.2m people opened new accounts across the five sportsbooks with 878,000 unique players.  PointsBet became the sixth operator live in New York when it launched on January 24.
