US – Oneida Nation announces plans to open Point Place Casino in Madison County

By - 2 April 2017

The Oneida Nation has confirmed it will be opening a new gaming facility in Bridgeport, along the border of Cicero and Onondaga County in New York state.

The new casino will be called Point Place Casino and is the latest in the Nation’s record of Central New York investments that have created thousands of jobs and generated significant public revenues for the region.

Point Place Casino will be located on Route 31, near the corner of Bridgeport-Kirkville Road, just a few hundred feet from the Cicero border. The new smoke-free facility will be approximately 65,000 square feet and will feature a modern gaming floor with nearly 500 popular slot machines and 20 table games, as well as two fast-casual counter service restaurants, including the newest location of Wicked Good Pizza, the widely popular pizza shop that originated at Yellow Brick Road Casino and recently opened at Turning Stone Resort Casino, and Burgers of Madison County, a fun, family-friendly restaurant offering burgers, milkshakes and more. Additionally, Point Place Casino will also introduce a second location of Opals Confectionary, the popular chocolatier and bakery from Turning Stone, and will also feature two bars.

“We are thrilled to announce this new investment in Central New York, and are confident it will continue the success we have had in working hand-in-hand with the local community to create good jobs and generate public revenues,” said Oneida Nation Representative and Nation Enterprises CEO Ray Halbritter. “Over the last few decades, we have worked hard to build a well-planned economic model that has sustained and invigorated the local economy – and our expansion projects have almost always exceeded expectations. In the coming months, we are looking forward to working with the community to launch this latest project and build off that success.”

Point Place Casino will create a wide range of more than 200 full- and part-time jobs in the town of Sullivan in Madison County. The casino will open a recruitment office in Cicero and will begin hiring in fall 2017. As with all major Oneida Nation projects, the construction of Point Place Casino will follow a project labor agreement with Central New York trade unions, creating 250 local construction jobs, which have a long history of completing Nation projects on time and on budget. Construction will begin in May and the casino is expected to open in spring 2018.

“For more than 20 years, the Oneida Nation has entrusted their new development and expansion projects to us and kept local union trade workers working,” said Pat Costello, Area Representative of the Central and Northern New York Building Trades Council. “Through decades of investments in our community, and as an engine of economic development for our entire region, the Oneida Nation has provided leadership for other employers and reaffirmed their commitment to our shared prosperity.
The same successful executive team that operates Turning Stone Resort Casino and Yellow Brick Road Casino will oversee Point Place Casino, ensuring that it is held to the superior land use, safety, environmental and guest service standards that guests have come to expect from Oneida Nation properties.

As with all Oneida Nation development projects, Oneida Nation officials have taken extra time – and devoted significant additional resources – to ensuring that the construction plans mitigate onsite noise, light and drainage issues, and reflect the community’s interests. Community consideration is an Oneida Nation tradition and has guaranteed success in other projects, including most recently the Yellow Brick Road Casino in Chittenango. The new project will reflect the elements that have made the Yellow Brick Road facility so successful, including security and public safety measures.
