US – Penn to open first Massachusetts casino in June

Penn National Gaming has announced that pending final regulatory approval by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission, Plainridge Park Casino will open its doors to the public on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 bringing top-flight dining, gaming, and entertainment options to the Commonwealth.

Massachusetts’ first casino will include nine dining and entertainment venues, live harness racing, and over 1,200 slot machines and Electronic Table Games.

Tim Wilmott, President and Chief Executive Officer of Penn National Gaming, said: “We are excited to set our opening date for the first casino in Massachusetts. This state-of-the-art facility will offer premier gaming, dining, entertainment, and racing options that are unmatched in the region.

Conveniently located near the south I-495 andI-95 interchange, Plainridge Park Casino will provide our guests with a variety of memorable experiences in an exciting, high energy setting.”

Plainridge Park Casino will feature nine dining and entertainment venues including, among others:
“We are proud of the economic opportunities we’re bringing to Massachusetts, and specifically to Norfolk and Bristol counties,” Mr. Wilmott added. “In generating more than 500 new jobs, we will be a significant employer in the region. We believe the facility is already serving as a catalyst for additional economic development in the area and will continue to spur economic growth in the future.”
Lance George, General Manager of Plainridge Park Casino, said: “We’re nearing the goal line and our team is thrilled to finally be in position to open our doors on June 24 and usher in an exciting new era for this region and the Commonwealth.

“Our opening will mark the culmination of a project that has enjoyed strong support from our host and surrounding communities, elected officials, labour unions, local vendors, and the approximately 1,000 local construction workers who had a hand in building Plainridge Park Casino. We are deeply grateful for their efforts, which have been instrumental in our ability to open this facility only 15 months after our groundbreaking last March.

“We look forward to highlighting additional milestones in the coming weeks, including the beginning of the live racing season, the installation of the Commonwealth’s first slot machines, and more as we approach the grand opening,” Mr. George concluded.

The $225m facility will also include a multi-purpose banquet room, simulcast wagering, and approximately 1,800 structured and surface parking spaces.
